Last week we talked about the influence of music in our lives. This week, our focus shifts to folks who help to make that music come alive. I have a particular musician in mind- Mr. David Ripley.
For the past two and a half decades, David has faithfully served Anglican congregations in the lower west -in their various forms: St Jude’s, St George’s-St Jude’s and the Westside Anglican Mission. During his time here, David has blessed us and so many others with his love of music which has been informed and seasoned by his deep faith in Jesus.
David has been a blessing in so many different ways. His gentle, loving, and disarming manner has helped to draw people in -not simply to participate in the choir but also into the life of the faith community. His unique easy-going style sets people at ease and has helped to create an atmosphere of worship.
There have been many memorable experiences over the years. David has helped to establish a junior youth group and participated in many Vacation Bible Schools; he has led choristers at our annual carol sing at the hospitals and nursing homes. He has helped at church functions- working his fingers to the bone. He even installed a click-floor in the upper room in an afternoon! When we think about it…perhaps “Organist and Choirmaster” fell a little short in describing the nature and volume of ministry work in which he has chosen to involve himself.
David, on behalf of all of all your friends in this congregation and in the lower west, I say: THANK YOU!! -for all that you are and all that you have done in the service of the Lord. We will miss you very much. We will miss not simply your gifts, skills and talent but, we shall also miss your fellowship.
We hope that you and Lyn enjoy your retirement years together. We hope that you continue to grow in your faith and also have opportunities to share your many gifts with others.
While it is difficult to say goodbye, we send you with our deep affection and all of God’s blessings…
So David, Moses blessed the people, we bless you with these timeless and powerful words from the Lord: ” The Lord bless you and keep you;the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up the light of His countenance on you and give you peace!” (Numbers 6:24-26).
In the Love of Christ, Rob and the “WAM” gang!
